RECAP OF THE GAME:

First Half

In Game 1, we (AS Cannes) started off quite strong and high pressed AS Monaco. The plan was to try to take advantage of any errors made by them to take possession of the ball high on the field. This was a clear advantage for us as you can see from the photo. We created a goal scoring opportunity early on causing the goalie to make a red card worthy tackle at the 4 minute mark on our attacker.

Shortly after, our number 9 gave us the 1-0 lead at 7 minutes from a beautiful corner kick taken by Magnier (11). At the 14 minute mark, there was a free kick for AS Monaco high in their defending half and with a quick recuperation of the ball, Lynda Bendris (9) received the ball and finished her second attempt on goal lifting us to a 2-0 lead.

AS Monaco responded well with some small counter attack opportunities and well built attacking plays, but fell short with their final passes in the final third.

Throughout the match AS Cannes and AS Monaco shared moments of possession. Although, we had much better development of play and lots of chances on goal. Many of the shots were well taken but not well placed, showing lack of technique in our finishing abilities. But nonetheless, first game jitters were definitely at play and this is something that will get better as the season continues.

Second Half

At the beginning of the second half, it was a quite chippy game resulting in two yellow cards shown to players on both teams. Both of us battling to take control of the game.

The second half also consisted of two half time changes for both teams. In the middle for AS Monaco, Towera replaces Bouziani, while for AS Cannes, Gaucher replaces Rochetaing on the left side. Gaucher moves into the attacking winger position and makes an immediate difference on the left side. She makes strong forward advances, well attempted crosses, and a couple chances at goal.

AS Monaco also finds themselves with many free kick opportunities near the half line and pushes their team to try to finish these set pieces. With one or two really well taken set pieces, Monaco finds themselves two or three chances at goal but Ben Mohamed in goal and our defensive line clean things up quite easily.

The game comes to an end with several strong attacks on the Monaco goal but nothing comes of it. Shaiek for AS Cannes has a great buildup play and almost finishes with a goal but a Monaco defender fills in with her goalie and saves the attempt.

Lynda Bendris ends up taking player of the match for her strong performance and two goals to take the 3 point win.
